The immigrant song

Aaaaaaah, aaaaaaaah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow, from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods
Will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying:
Valhalla, I am coming!
On we sweep with threshing oar,
Our only goal will be the western shore.

Aaaaaaah, aaaaaaaah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow, from the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
How soft your fields so green,
Can whisper tales of gore,
Of how we calmed the tides of war.
We are your overlords.
On we sweep with threshing oar,
Our only goal will be the western shore.
So now you’d better stop and rebuild all your ruins,
For peace and trust can win the day
Despite of all your losing.

-Immigrant Song. Led Zeppelin.

I don't know how relevant this song is in the current context. But, I could not help but write this after hearing Lou Dobbs's argument on Anderson Cooper's 360. Lou Dobb made an argument about 200M+ legal American citizens and the middle class whose "jobs" are being threatened. To me this again exposed selective/ignorant media reporting. There is no iota of doubt that the middle class is strong and the back bone of America.

Take a moment and think about middle class America's ultimate dream of owning their beautiful home with its own lawn.

If this cheap labor does not build American homes America's middle class will think twice before withdrawing from their 401Ks to buy homes because homes will be so expensive. The lawns will become wild tundra because America's middle class will not be able to save enough for their children's college fund and their retirement funds. Especially with the current budget deficit and social security funds many American's already have lost hope if they ever will be supported by social security. And the American dream will always be a dream. America's middle class has the right to ask for competitive, quality service that the immigrants have provided. Lets not forget America was built by the immigrants.

Lou Dobbs failed to give any reasonable argument to resolve the issue other than deporting the immigrants, unless I missed his argument. Lou Dobbs before making any such advocacy about America's middle class he should use some of his journalistic knowledge and investigate what America's middle class really wants. Lou Dobbs should examine the contribution of Corporate America to middle class America. Please do not try to throw unwanted emotions in your reporting and sensationalize it.

It is interesting to note that all prosperous cities of the US has a significant immigrant population and places that have minimal such population is only noticed in times of big calamities.

Now, I am no proponent of illegal immigration. But, I am totally against irrational, self-harming decisions too.

Deportation is similar to the prohibition, in my humble opinion this should be regulated instead; so these immigrants are not exploited and rest by itself will create the equilibrium.

PS: Rob Schneider did a better job of recognizing the importance of immigrants on Jay Leno show. He said all immigrants should go back, just to show the importance of these people in the country.
